Transport based studies at the University of Birmingham has a long history and this continues to thrive today in a variety of areas that truly span across the discipline. The main areas of excellence are highway management and engineering, railway engineering, vehicle dynamics, safety and reliability management. Research topics include climate effects on transport, transport energy use, and decision support tools for maintenance, renewal and asset management. Professor C.J. Baker leads the research in Transport Technology. The research activities undertaken inform MSc programmes in Road Management and Engineering, Roads and Public Policy, Railways Engineering, and Undergraduate programmes and CPD courses.
