Barnet Council seeks views on £200m regeneration
Developers have submitted an outline planning application for proposals to regenerate the Stonegrove and Spur Road estates with detailed plans for the first phase of work.
The project is expected to cost £200 million over the next five years.
The proposals are the result of long and detailed work by Barnet Council and its partners, Barratt Homes, and Family Mosaic housing association, working closely with a partnership board of elected representatives from the estates and co-opted members.
The plans have now gone out for five weeks of formal consultation.
The main features of the scheme include:
· A mix of 937 homes designed to reflect the housing needs of local people
· A community square, a new community hall, new church and a church hall with nursery facilities
· Changed traffic access and safe parking
· Private and communal gardens and open spaces
· Sustainable buildings and high quality landscaping
· Distinct neighbourhoods with inter connecting roads
· And management arrangements for the whole scheme
Barnet’s Cabinet member for Regeneration, Cllr Anthony Finn, said: ”The submission of the planning application is a really important event for Stonegrove and Spur Road and shows that we are determined to bring about substantial regeneration.
“This is a big step forward for this major scheme and I hope that residents of Stonegrove and Spur Road and the surrounding area will once again take the opportunity to express their views on their future.”
It’s expected that members of Barnet’s Planning and Environment Committee will meet to consider the proposals early next year.
Approval would clear the way for work to start on site next spring, and then continue through a series of building phases.
