Bury’s economic development boss to retire
The man behind much of the economic development of Bury for many years is stepping down after 38 years service in local government.
Colin Fishwick is taking voluntary early retirement from his post as head of Bury Council’s urban strategy and neighbourhoods unit.
He joined Bury Council in 1995 after 22 years with Manchester City Council to head up its economic development unit. His job was to work with businesses and partners to attract private, government and European money to Bury to bring about regeneration and economic growth.
As such, he has been involved in many projects in Bury, from The Rock development to Chamberhall Business Park and Knowsley Place.
He said: “There have been huge changes in Bury over the years and I am glad to have played a part in bringing those about.
“Bury now has a much higher profile in Greater Manchester and has been a key contributor and beneficiary of its success over the last ten years. I have been proud to be associated with many of the key developments in the borough in recent years.”
Ruth Fairhurst, deputy chief executive of Bury Council, said: “Colin has an enviable record and his wide knowledge and partnership work has greatly benefited Bury and its place within Greater Manchester and the North West. I wish him the very best for the future.”
