Council chiefs call on the government over eco-town

Jarrow Investments and Tesco have announced they will not be pulling out of the project despite news that major landowner Wellcome Trust would not be part of the scheme.

Cambridgeshire’s planning chiefs say the scheme is completely different from the original plans. The original plans said that 8,000 homes were to be built at Hanley Grange; the figure then rose to 12,800, but has since dropped to 6,500.

Council chiefs, local MPs and Cambridgeshire Horizons, who have been campaigning against the scheme, are saying enough is enough, and have called for the government to throw the scheme out in light of the changes, which they claim bare no resemblance to what the Minister first agreed should be short listed.
