DCLG appoints non-executive director

The Department for Communities and Local Government has appointed Stewart Gilliland as a non-executive director to its board.

Gilliland was previously chief executive of Müller UK and Ireland from 2006 until his retirement at the end of 2010. He joins as the fourth non executive director for the department in addition to Sara Weller, Stephen Hay and Diana Brightmore-Armour.

Permanent secretary, Sir Bob Kerslake, welcomed the appointment saying: "I am really pleased Stewart has agreed to take on the role of non-executive director for the Department. Stewart brings with him a valuable wealth of commercial experience and external expertise. I look forward to working with him."

Gilliland said: "I am delighted to be taking up a non-executive director role within DCLG. It is a particularly challenging time for both the government and the economy and I hope that my 30 years of commercial experience will help the department to deliver a more effective programme of change."
