Entry forms published for London Planning Awards
Entry forms have been published for the London Planning Awards, the annual competition to celebrate the contribution good planning makes to the capital’s urban vitality.
Mayor Boris Johnson will host the awards in January.
There are seven categories of awards; projects may be entered in several categories. All shortlisted entries are considered for the Mayor’s overall award for planning excellence. Previous winners of the Mayor’s award include Regent Street Vision – the regeneration of one of the world’s biggest and most famous shopping destinations (2009), High Speed One – the project surrounding the new international rail terminal (2008), Kings Cross Central (2007) and the Emirates Stadium (2006) as well as smaller schemes such as Hackney’s Hothouse arts complex (2003).
Category winners last year were:
• Highbury Square (the conversion of Arsenal’s former stadium) – Best Built Project
• Loxford Polyclinic – Best Built Project, Community Scale
• Ponders End Framework – Best Conceptual Project
• Barking Town Square – Best New Public Space
• Bermondsey Spa Regeneration, including St James Quarter – Best New Place to Live
• Swiss Re, 30 St Mary Axe – Best Built Project, Five Years On
• Royal Arsenal Riverside – Best Historic Building Management
The London Planning Awards are run jointly by the Mayor, London First, the Royal Town Planning Institute, and London Councils. The last two years have seen record numbers of entries to the competition, from boroughs, developers, consultants, community groups, public agencies and partnerships across London.
