Highways Agency appoints new director

Peter Adams has been appointed as the Highways Agency's new major projects director.

He joined the agency in 2009 as divisional director for major projects in southern England. Before this he spent 20 years with BAA in engineering and project management roles, and three years with Thames Water developing its asset management strategy and business plan.

As major projects director, he will be responsible for delivery of the Government's strategic roads programme, including managed motorway schemes, as well as working with his teams to develop further projects for future delivery.

The budget of £2.3bn for major road schemes within this spending review period was increased by around £0.7bn following the Government's Autumn Statement in November 2011. The additional investment means that six major road schemes have been added to the roads programme for start of works before March 2015, with work on two managed motorway schemes accelerated.
