Hillingdon Council to open shelter for homeless men during winter nights
The London Borough of Hillingdon is once again opening a night shelter for homeless men during the coldest nights of the year.
The shelter, which is a result of close collaboration and joint working with some of the council's key external partners and local church groups, will run from 16 January - 26 February. Rough sleepers will be provided with a bed and advice and support to help them find alternative accommodation once the shelter closes.
Now in its sixth year, the winter night shelter will be staffed by experienced managers working alongside volunteers who will help by either supplying an evening meal, assist with various roles in the evening or provide sleeping night cover as back up to the manager.
Cabinet Member for Social Care, Health and Housing, Cllr Philip Corthorne, said: "This shelter will provide much needed support to vulnerable men through some of the harshest months of the year and will hopefully help them get back on their feet for 2012."
If you would like to volunteer or think you can make a donation, including clothing and shopping vouchers to help provide meals, email housingoptions@hillingdon.gov.uk or phone 01895 250147.
