LGA senior members appointed to House of Lords
Dame Margaret Eaton, Sir Jeremy Beecham and Shireen Ritchie have been appointed to the House of Lords.
Responding to the appointment John Ransford, chief executive of the Local Government Association Group, said:
“I am delighted that three of the LGA’s leading members have been appointed to the House of Lords. I also congratulate John Shipley, the leader of Newcastle City Council, on his appointment.
“The announcement is a testament to their tireless work over many years promoting local government nationally through the LGA, as well as in their own councils. They all have hugely valuable experience to bring to the House of Lords.
“As Chairman of the Local Government Association, Margaret’s dedication to helping councils make people’s lives better and her inspiring passion has led us, and the sector, to continually improve.
“Jeremy’s role as the first Chairman of the LGA helped us establish an authoritative single voice for local government, and he has remained a powerful advocate for councils to make a real difference to their local areas.
“Shireen has brought her huge experience of young persons issues to our work with councils at a time when their services for children have never been more important.”
