Library closures legal rules court

Campaigners have failed in a legal bid to stop the closure of several libraries in Brent.

Local residents, supported by a number of literary celebrities, celebrities sought to prevent London Borough of Brent shutting the six libraries.

Having lost in the High Court they filed an appeal.

However, today the Court of Appeal sided with the High Court Judge and the council, which argued that its decision was "made with great care".

Lord Justice Pill, Lord Justice Richards and Lord Justice Davis ruled that the High Court judge, after a "most careful and thorough review of all the points advanced", had reached the "right conclusions".
