New LGA chief executive appointed

The Chairman of the Local Government Association, Dame Margaret Eaton, has today announced that John Ransford will be chief executive of the LGA Group until late 2011.

Dame Margaret Eaton said:

“The appointment of John to continue as Chief Executive will provide experience and stability for the LGA Group over the next 18 months. As we implement the Getting Closer programme, it is absolutely vital that the Group has continuity. The LGA Group Leaders believe that John’s experienced leadership is necessary so that these changes can be seen through to the benefit of member authorities.

“The local government sector is facing its most challenging period for a generation. It is therefore more important than ever to have a strong and effective LGA Group, led by a tried and tested chief executive who will provide stability beyond the general election.”
