Right to buy banned
Thursday, 09 October 2008
The right to buy council houses in Cumbernauld, Scotland may be banned.

More than 1500 tenants in Cumbernauld and Moodiesburn will have their right-to-buy suspended if the proposals before the Scottish Executive are given the go-ahead.

It's estimated the measure would block almost 300 potential sales over the next five years, easing pressure on mounting waiting lists.

Nine councils across Scotland, including East Renfrewshire, North Ayrshire and South Ayrshire, have so far successfully applied to the Scottish Government to halt all sales.
