No chief executive for Rugby Borough Council

Rugby Borough Council has decided not to appoint a replacement chief executive.

Instead the job’s responsibilities will be split between the council’s leader and two senior officers.

The council’s former chief executive, Simon Warren's departed to Wolverhampton in March.

The leader Cllr Craig Humphrey is to take on a more ‘hands-on’ role in the running of the authority.

The council said its decision was taken in the light of likely severe reductions in the funding of public services.

The arrangements include an enhanced role for the leader in setting the strategic direction of the council, its vision and its change programme. Cllr Humphrey will also continue to act as an advocate for the council at a regional, sub-regional and local level and will be the representative voice of the council in its dealings with government, regional and sub-regional bodies and other local authorities.

Andrew Gabbitas and Ian Davis, who are currently the council's deputy chief executives, will become executive directors. They will remain responsible for the leadership and management of the workforce.

A review of the allowances paid to all borough councillors is also underway.
