Sandwell chief exec quits

Sandwell Council's chief executive Dr Allison Fraser is leaving the authority after four years at the helm, to pursue new challenges.

Council leader councillor Darren Cooper said: "I am sorry to see Allison leave. Her commitment to the authority and the people of Sandwell has been excellent.

"She has brought real improvements to many of the authority's services which have received national recognition.”

Allison Fraser became chief executive in 2006 after filling the post on an interim basis for six months.
Previously, she had worked for London Borough of Newham and Nottingham City councils as well as Sandwell.

She first joined Sandwell in 1991 and had risen to the position of head of policy & member services when she left to go to Nottingham City Council as deputy chief executive in 1999. She returned to Sandwell as deputy chief executive in 2002.

She said: "I am very proud of my time at Sandwell and the immense progress we have made.
"I am confident that I am leaving the council in a strong position to successfully face the serious challenges ahead for local government.

"It has been a privilege to serve the people of Sandwell."
