Southampton librarians to strike

Library staff employed by Southampton City Council, are to go on strike later this month over plans to use volunteers instead of trained staff.

A walkout is planned for 21 June in protest at the authority’s cost-saving strategy.

They are objecting to plans by the city council's ruling Conservatives to scrap funding for six librarians this year, and six more next year, and replace them with volunteers.
